Software Engineering Intern

We strongly believe that internships should be about doing real engineering work and making a real difference from day one, not watching other people do things or working on superficial tasks. Our culture of trust, transparency, and collaboration, means everyone at Gearset is given the autonomy to succeed and is trusted to do good work. We only add processes when it helps us get things done, and we’re allergic to pointless meetings!

At Gearset, you'll be a fully fledged member of the development team and work on real features, right the way through from their design, to developing them, to releasing them to our users. The features you build will delight users at thousands of global businesses, including IBM, Sonos, and TripAdvisor.

WHAT’S THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A SOFTWARE ENGINEER INTERN AT GEARSET?

- Our small engineering teams start from a few core principles but evolve over time. They all work a little bit differently, depending on their preferences and the problem they're working on. You’ll impact what we build, as well as how we build it.

- A great team does their best work with context and feedback - there’s no substitute for talking directly with the people impacted by our work. Engineers work across the business and talk directly to customers and partners, to ensure we're solving the most impactful problems.

- Our tech stack includes C#, React, TypeScript, Postgres, AWS and Kubernetes. You’ll become familiar with our pragmatically chosen stack, but you’ll also help us define what great looks like.

WHAT YOU’LL ACHIEVE

- Ship code in your first week, and make a meaningful impact to our code base and customers over your 10 weeks.

- Work as a core member of the engineering team to design, build, and ship features to production.

- Learn from, and share your experience with, a great team from a wide range of backgrounds in a feedback driven culture where you can do your best work.

- Work closely with users, delighting them with support, researching new features and gaining feedback to drive new ideas and ways to improve.

- Contribute opinions on a range of topics, from design practices to product strategy and roadmap.

ABOUT YOU

- Be a current student studying for a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in a relevant discipline

- Be based in the UK, it’s not a role we can provide visa sponsorship for

- An eagerness to solve real-world problems and ship solutions

- A passion for learning and continual improvement, being comfortable giving and receiving constructive feedback to make your work even better

GREAT TO HAVES

- Familiarity with any of the following: C#/.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript and React

- A link to a great example(s) of code you've written (e.g. GitHub)

We believe that diverse teams perform better, so if your experience doesn’t fit perfectly or you don't meet every single requirement but you’re excited about this role, we’d love for you to apply anyway.

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE YOU HIT APPLY?

We know job hunting can be daunting, so we keep our hiring process transparent, human, and collaborative. All applications are reviewed by real people - we do not use AI to screen CVs, grade assessments, or make hiring decisions. And there's no one-way video interviews!

Our Interview Process

- Applications & Review: We accept applications on a rolling basis. Once submitted, your CV will be reviewed directly by our Talent Team.

- Stage 1: Take-Home Technical Assessment: You’ll receive a practical coding task. We typically ask for this back within 1 week, but your university deadlines come first—don't rush it! An engineer (never AI) will review your submission and provide direct feedback on your code.

- Stage 2: Technical Interview (Final Stage): A 2-hour collaborative session structured like a real pair-programming problem with our software engineers. You can choose to complete this via Google Meet or in-person at our office.
