What you'll do

As a Mission Systems Engineering Intern, you will work across avionics, software, communications, and system integration to help build, test, and troubleshoot mission capabilities.
Support integration and testing of mission hardware, software, sensors, radios, processors, and avionics systems
Develop and test software for command and control, telemetry, and subsystem interfaces
Perform hardware/software bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting in lab, HIL, ground-test, and aircraft environments
Support system interfaces, networking, communication protocols, and integration requirements
Collaborate with software, avionics, autonomy, communications, and flight-test teams

What they want

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
Hands-on experience with both software development and hardware integration through internships, coursework, research, projects, or competition teams
Familiarity with networking TCP/UDP, Ethernet
Programming experience in C++, Python, or a similar language
Experience working with embedded systems, electronics, avionics, sensors, networking, or other hardware-connected systems
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces

Nice to have

Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, RS-422, or ARINC
Experience with electrical schematics, wiring, electronics bring-up, or test equipment
Exposure to HIL/SIL, robotics, UAVs, aerospace, defense, Formula SAE, rocketry, or similar hands-on projects
Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.

Base pay range

$25.00/hr - $33.00/hr

About the team

The Mission Systems Engineering Team develops and integrates the hardware and software that enable Hermeus aircraft to execute missions.

As a Mission Systems Engineering Intern, you will work across avionics, software, communications, and system integration to help build, test, and troubleshoot mission capabilities. This role is ideal for someone with a strong mix of hands-on hardware experience and software development skills.

Spring: Around 16 weeks (January - April)

Summer: Around 12 weeks (May - August)

Responsibilities

Support integration and testing of mission hardware, software, sensors, radios, processors, and avionics systems
Develop and test software for command and control, telemetry, and subsystem interfaces
Perform hardware/software bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting in lab, HIL, ground-test, and aircraft environments
Support system interfaces, networking, communication protocols, and integration requirements
Collaborate with software, avionics, autonomy, communications, and flight-test teams
Document test results, technical findings, and system configurations

Required qualifications

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
Hands-on experience with both software development and hardware integration through internships, coursework, research, projects, or competition teams
Familiarity with networking TCP/UDP, Ethernet
Programming experience in C++, Python, or a similar language
Experience working with embedded systems, electronics, avionics, sensors, networking, or other hardware-connected systems
Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software interfaces
Demonstrated ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary technical teams
GPA of 3.0 or above

Preferred skills and experience

Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, RS-422, or ARINC
Experience with electrical schematics, wiring, electronics bring-up, or test equipment
Exposure to HIL/SIL, robotics, UAVs, aerospace, defense, Formula SAE, rocketry, or similar hands-on projects

The hourly rate listed for this internship is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on degree level.
