Collins Aerospace Materials & Process Engineering Department has an opening for a 2026 Chemical Engineering/Materials Science Engineering Summer intern The role requires working with internal engineering customers and suppliers to assist with materials and process (M&P) evaluations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing materials characterization, providing analytical services, conducting root cause and failure investigations, and working with external suppliers to ensure part quality.

This role may be eligible for relocation. This role is onsite in Rockford, IL and will be for Summer 2027. What You Will Do: You will interpret specification requirements and communicate with Collins Operations sites and suppliers as required.

What You Will Learn: You will learn training and skill development to support RRCA and process improvement activities. You will learn to apply knowledge learned through academics to validate hardware and/or process conforms to related specification requirements.

You will learn to interpret aerospace material drawings and specifications. You will be trained to operate and interpret results from state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation.

Qualifications You Must Have: Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering or an applicable Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics discipline and actively enrolled through completion of the internship/co-op session.

*Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.* Qualifications We Prefer: Proficient knowledge using Microsoft Office products.

Materials Science/Chemical Engineering major. Currently enrolled with at least 30 credits hours earned toward a bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or related field from an accredited college or university.

This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
