At Freddie Mac, our mission of Making Home Possible is what motivates us, and it’s at the core of everything we do. Since our charter in 1970, we have made home possible for more than 90 million families across the country. Join an organization where your work contributes to a greater purpose. We are accepting applications for this position until 10/16/2026 Position Overview: Are you looking for an internship that combines software engineering, modern data platforms, and finance? The Multifamily Division within Freddie Mac is searching for talented, curious, and motivated individuals to support our technology initiatives and strategic business objectives. This is not your typical IT internship. You will be embedded directly within the Capital Markets Data & Execution Enablement team—a highly technical, agile group acting as the analytical and technology arm of the Capital Markets business. Our team is responsible for delivering the myOptigo for Capital Markets vision: modernizing how data is sourced, governed, and engineered, and automating complex financial execution workflows. As a Capital Markets Software & Data Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience building production-grade tools, rapid prototypes, and data pipelines. You will work alongside experienced engineers to design and build solutions using Python, Snowflake, and automated rules engines, directly supporting Freddie Mac’s multi-billion-dollar securitization and credit risk transfer (CRT) platforms. Our Impact: Freddie Mac Multifamily is a dynamic organization that provides liquidity to the secondary mortgage market, supporting affordable housing across the nation. Within this division, the Capital Markets area manages our pricing at loan origination and our industry-leading securitization platforms (including the widely recognized K-Deal, PC, and CRT programs). Because Capital Markets is a downstream business process, precision, speed, and data traceability are non-negotiable. Our team sits at the intersection of business and technology, accelerating the delivery of workflow automation, advanced analytics, and data modernization. We bridge the gap by proving value with working software, hardening requirements through real-world usage, and partnering with divisional IT teams to transition successful prototypes into enterprise-scale platforms. Your Impact: As an intern on our team, you will combine technical execution with business strategy. Key activities include: Develop Hands-on Automation: Assist in building and maintaining automation solutions across securitization and CRT workflows (e.g., data exception management, disclosure preparation, and pooling support). Build Modern Data Pipelines: Work with Snowflake and Python to help model, curate, and engineer data products that enable consistent definitions and trusted analytics. Utilize AI-Enabled Tools: Leverage AI-enabled developer tools and assistants to automate repetitive coding tasks, improve development efficiency, and enhance software quality while maintaining strong engineering judgment. Support Rules-Based Systems: Help implement and test deterministic rules engines and workflows where absolute precision, repeatability, and strict controls are required. Collaborate in an Agile Environment: Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and work closely with Capital Markets business partners to translate financial needs into software requirements. Practice Strong Engineering Standards: Learn and apply robust software engineering practices appropriate for business-owned tooling, including version control (Git), testing, documentation, and operational controls. Qualifications: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Information Technology, or a related technical/quantitative discipline. Expected graduation date of May 2028. Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and database design. Strong Python skills (for data engineering, automation, or APIs) and familiarity with SQL. Exposure to or interest in using AI tools, digital collaboration platforms, or basic scripting to automate manual workflows. Familiarity with modern data platforms like Snowflake or cloud services (AWS) is a plus. Experience contributing to hackathons, personal coding projects, open-source initiatives, or technical class projects is highly valued. undefined Keys to Success in this Role Financial Curiosity: A strong desire to learn fixed-income finance concepts and Multifamily Capital Markets products (like K-Deals, PCs, and CRT). Prior finance knowledge is not required, but a willingness to learn is essential! Willingness to Experiment: Comfort operating in ambiguity and a passion for finding the "right tool for the job" (knowing when to use automated rules, scripting, or data queries). Hybrid Communication: Ability to collaborate effectively with both business users (traders, underwriters, analysts) and enterprise software engineers. Analytical Problem-Solving: Self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to learn new tools and technologies independently. Attention to Detail: A commitment to producing high-quality, auditable code and data pipelines where accuracy is critical. Interns are paid at a set, non-negotiable hourly rate.
