Supply Chain Engineering Internship (Summer 2027)

Amca is building America’s new industrial base. Since the 1990s, our ability to build new aviation and military systems and maintain the ones we already have has eroded.

Today, the gap between what the nation needs to produce and what it is capable of producing is the largest it has been in generations. To help close that gap, Amca rapidly develops and manufactures new critical components and subsystems required to build and sustain the planes, military vehicles, and core infrastructure America needs.

Today, we operate seven factories nationwide, including our advanced prototyping and testing headquarters in El Segundo, and deliver avionics, hydraulic, and electrical components for platforms such as the F-35, F-16, F/A-18, 737MAX, 787, A320neo, A321, Mk-48, and M1 Abrams.

Overview: The Supply Chain Engineering Intern works alongside our supply chain engineers on two parts of the job: making sure the hardware Amca sources externally is reliable, and delivering build-to-print customer contracts on schedule.

You will own a scoped project, such as a supplier improvement effort, a defect investigation, or a piece of a build-to-print program, and see it through with support from the engineers closest to the hardware.

At Amca, ownership sits with the engineer closest to the hardware, because the person who understands a product is best positioned to execute on it. Interns get real responsibility and are expected to contribute to actual programs and suppliers.

We are looking for engineers with strong understanding of manufacturing and quality methods, a bias toward action, the ability to hold suppliers to requirements, and the judgment to make and keep commitments to customers.

Responsibilities: Product Ownership — Build-to-Print • Support build-to-print programs by breaking down customer technical data packages and contracts into requirements matrices (drawing notes, specifications, quality clauses, test, inspection, marking, packaging, and delivery) • Help build and track program schedules covering long-lead procurement, tooling, first article, qualification, and delivery, and flag risks to the schedule early and specifically Nonconformance and Defect Resolution • Help resolve supplier-caused defects, including containment, disposition, return to vendor, and closure • Support material review and nonconformance processes with quality, engineering, and production • Assist with supplier corrective and preventive action requests and verify that fixes are effective, not just that the form is closed • Support failure investigations and root cause analysis on dimensional, material, and process escapes Source Qualification and Supplier Development • Support supplier evaluation and onboarding, including capability assessments and quality system reviews, and visit suppliers onsite where appropriate • Assist with first article inspection (AS9102) and production readiness for new and transitioning parts Analysis, Risk, and Cross-Functional Work • Analyze supplier quality and delivery data to find systemic gaps and turn them into targeted supplier projects • Help identify supply chain risk such as single-source exposure, capacity constraints, long-lead items, and obsolescence • Work with design, test, and build engineers to understand design intent and translate it into clear supplier requirements • Help develop the standards and documentation that make supplier quality and program execution repeatable as Amca scales Basic Qualifications • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in an engineering or STEM discipline • Demonstrated ability to read engineering drawings, with working knowledge of GD&T from coursework, a project team, or prior experience • Hands-on exposure to manufacturing, quality, process, or supply chain engineering through coursework, a student project team, personal projects, or a prior internship • Experience owning a project with a hard deadline, such as a project team deliverable, where you kept a schedule and worked with people who did not report to you • Comfortable communicating directly with suppliers and teammates on technical, quality, and schedule topics Preferred Skills and Experience • Prior internship or project experience in quality, manufacturing, process, program, or supply chain engineering, ideally in aerospace, defense, or another regulated hardware industry • Product owner, technical program management, or new product introduction (NPI) experience in a hardware environment • Technical familiarity with one or more commodities, such as machined parts, avionics and PCBAs, or injection molding • Familiarity with AS9100 or a comparable quality management system, and with supplier quality processes such as first article inspection and supplier approval • Experience managing schedules in a formal tool and reporting status to a team or leadership Additional Requirements • This position is based in El Segundo, CA and is onsite five days a week.

Remote work is not considered. • Ability to travel up to 25% to supplier facilities, Amca factories, and customer sites • Willing to work extended hours as needed to support production and resolve critical issues • Valid driver's license Hourly Pay Range $30 — $50 USD This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
