Process Engineering Co-op, LNP Development

Company Overview: Beam Therapeutics is a biotechnology company committed to establishing the leading, fully integrated platform for precision genetic medicines.

To achieve this vision, Beam has assembled a platform with integrated gene editing, delivery and internal manufacturing capabilities. Beam’s suite of gene editing technologies is anchored by base editing, a proprietary technology that is designed to enable precise, predictable and efficient single base changes, at targeted genomic sequences, without making double-stranded breaks in the DNA.

This has the potential to enable a wide range of therapeutic editing strategies that Beam is using to advance a diversified portfolio of base editing programs.

Beam is a values-driven organization committed to its people, cutting-edge science, and a vision of providing life-long cures to patients suffering from serious diseases.

Position Overview: Beam is looking for a highly energetic Process Engineering Co-op to join our growing LNP Development Team from January through June 2027.

In this role, you will contribute to scale-up activities for Lipid Nanoparticle formulations and process development, troubleshooting strategies and data driven experimental designs for next-generation LNP formulations.

You will work closely with the development team along with collaborating cross-functionally within a fast-paced environment to develop robust and scalable LNPs.

Responsibilities: • Support the development, optimization, and scale-up of targeted lipid nanoparticle (tLNP) manufacturing processes. • Conduct formulation and process development studies involving LNP mixing, filtration, and tangential flow filtration (TFF) to evaluate and understand key product quality attributes.

• Execute laboratory experiments to assess process performance and characterize the impact of critical process parameters on LNP quality, stability, and manufacturability.

• Contribute to process improvement initiatives through experimental design, data analysis, and troubleshooting of formulation and manufacturing challenges.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams across LNP Development, Analytical Development, and Process Optimization to advance project objectives. • Maintain accurate documentation of experimental activities, analyze results, and present to the project team.

• Follow all laboratory safety policies and procedures while supporting routine laboratory operations. Qualifications: • Pursuing a BS or MS in Bioengineering, Biochemistry or any related field of study with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
