As America’s Crop Insurance Company™, we’re headquartered in the U.S. and have been owned by the farmers we insure for over 125 years. Farmers Mutual Hail (located in West Des Moines, IA) is currently looking for a qualified undergraduate to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program.

This is a paid internship starting Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, working up to 40 hours per week for the summer, with the potential to turn into a full-time, permanent position in the future.

We are looking for currently-enrolled college students who are close to the West Des Moines area, as this is not a remote internship. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior or senior at an undergraduate college or university, majoring in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS or related technical field.

A minor or focus on AI is highly preferred. Skills: Exposure to Python (required), familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, basic infrastructure concepts, or AI frameworks (such as LangChain, TensorFlow, PyTorch) is a plus.

Exposure to AI enabled coding platforms such as Codex and IntelliJ. Familiarity with Microsoft CoPilot ecosystem of tools preferred. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Fine-tunes prompts and models to optimize AI-driven business applications.

• Performs data preprocessing, analysis, and validation to support AI development and integration. • Assists in testing, debugging, and maintaining AI systems and related tools.

• Researches, evaluates, and experiments with emerging AI technologies to identify opportunities for business use. • Designs, develops, and maintains software solutions primarily using Python, Codex, IntelliJ, Azure AI and related technologies.

• Analyzes and interprets business and technical requirements to inform system design and functionality. • Develops and maintains technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

• Collaborates effectively with team members (AI Agile Team) and cross-functional groups (Information Security) to support ongoing initiatives WORK ENVIRONMENT: • Office environment with individual workspace provided.
