  • As a Construction Management Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting construction projects that power communities across AEP's service territory.
  • Working alongside experienced construction coordinators, project managers, engineers, contractors, and field personnel, you'll contribute to project planning, scheduling, field coordination, safety initiatives, and project documentation while developing a strong understanding of utility construction practices.
  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction activities.
  • Participate in construction site visits, project walkdowns, and field observations.
  • Support the review of project drawings, specifications, schedules, and permits.

AEP offers competitive intern compensation based on completed college credit hours. Eligible students who relocate for their internship assignment may also qualify for a housing stipend, providing additional support while gaining valuable industry experience.

Construction Management Internship Details

As a Construction Management Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience supporting construction projects that power communities across AEP's service territory. Working alongside experienced construction coordinators, project managers, engineers, contractors, and field personnel, you'll contribute to project planning, scheduling, field coordination, safety initiatives, and project documentation while developing a strong understanding of utility construction practices.

Day in the Life of an AEP Construction Management Intern

As a Construction Management Intern, you may:

  • Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating construction activities.
  • Participate in construction site visits, project walkdowns, and field observations.
  • Support the review of project drawings, specifications, schedules, and permits.
  • Observe construction activities and help document project progress.
  • Assist with tracking materials, equipment, work orders, and project documentation.
  • Support project teams in identifying and communicating field constraints or potential project issues.
  • Assist in preparing reports, meeting notes, project schedules, and status updates.
  • Collaborate with employees, contractors, suppliers, and vendors to support project success.
  • Gain exposure to project controls, procurement processes, and construction management best practices.
  • Learn and promote AEP's commitment to safety through a Zero Harm mindset.
  • Expand your technical and professional skills through mentorship, training, and project work.

Basic qualifications

Required

Where You'll Work

Assignments may include both office and field environments. Interns may visit active construction sites, operating facilities, and project locations to gain firsthand experience supporting infrastructure projects.
