The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Liquidity and Counterparty Risk Management co-op student/intern for the Winter 2027 (January to April) or Winter & Summer 2027 work terms (January to August) to provide research and analytics support across a range of investment subjects, including liquidity management, leverage monitoring, and assessment of BCI’s key counterparties.

This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge through supporting the development of new liquidity risk measures, helping enhance the leverage monitoring framework, and assisting in streamlining and automating counterparty risk related processes.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH The co-op will report to Senior Analyst, Liquidity and Counterparty Risk Management. The Liquidity and Counterparty Risk Management team sits within the Investment Risk branch of Investment Strategy & Risk and is responsible for measuring and managing liquidity, leverage, and counterparty risks across BCI's portfolio.

The team partners closely with Strategic Asset Allocation, Total Fund Management, and Investment Operations to ensure these risks are reflected in asset allocation and rebalancing decisions, with key stakeholders including BCI's clients, the BCI Board, and the Executive Team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING • Understand and challenge how liquidity risk is interpreted across asset classes, investment mandates, and financial instruments within BCI • Support the identification and monitoring of counterparty risks across asset classes • Contribute to the enhancement of private markets capital call and distribution models • Support the fundamental credit analysis for financial institutions (banks, brokers, etc.

) • Take part in enhancing our forward-looking liquidity models and their integration into client asset allocation processes • Prepare and modernize periodic reports for the department and management teams • Assist in integrating AI/LLM to streamline existing processes • Ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the team • Required Skills • Degree in finance, economics, commerce, statistics, or related discipline • Passion for investment management, dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and most importantly, eagerness to learn • Interest in investment risk management • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills • Sound working knowledge of Excel, Python, and SQL • Familiarity with Agentic AI tools such as OpenAI Codex CLI / Claude Code is a strong asset • Familiarity with derivative instruments and fixed-income analysis is a strong asset • Familiarity with basic data engineering (Pipelines, ETL, orchestration, storage) is an asset • Familiarity with systems such as Bloomberg and Capital IQ is an asset WHAT WE OFFER • Excellent career development and training by helping the candidate understand the qualitative and quantitative risk assessment process • Work with a dynamic team in a fast-paced environment • The development of real-world skills at one of the largest institutional investors in Canada • Exposure to some of the most talented, approachable, and inspiring people in the industry • The ability to opt-in for access to Dialogue, a user-friendly app that offers virtual primary care, employee and family services, and mental health supports • Time to connect with co-op students & interns at BCI – build your network and shared learning • 2 paid days per year for volunteering • Competitive pay $2,330.

00 gross bi-weekly + vacation leave paid based on 6% of salary • Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location THE DETAILS Work term: Winter 2027 (January to April) or Winter & Summer 2027 (January to August) Department: Investment Strategy & Risk Office Location: 750 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office with the option to work one day per week from home.
