What you'll do
- Assist journeymen and field leaders with lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, test, and support pipe, valves, fittings, and equipment.
- Read basic drawings, labels, measurements, and work instructions; ask questions when requirements are unclear.
- Stage, inventory, protect, and move materials and tools so assigned work areas remain productive.
- Use and maintain pipe machines, groovers, presses, rigging, hand tools, and power tools only after training and authorization.
- Complete assigned apprenticeship, safety, and skills training and accurately report work hours when required.
- Inspect work areas for hazards, follow the project safety plan, and use required personal protective equipment.

Position Summary
The Shop Apprentice I - Piping is a developing skilled-trades team member who supports the safe installation of commercial mechanical piping systems, including chilled water, heating water, condenser water, refrigerant,
condensate, and steam on commercial projects. The role works under the direction of a Foreman and experienced craft professionals while building the technical knowledge, productivity, and quality habits required for advancement. This position reports to the Shop Foreman - Piping.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist journeymen and field leaders with lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, test, and support pipe, valves, fittings, and equipment.
- Read basic drawings, labels, measurements, and work instructions; ask questions when requirements are unclear.
- Stage, inventory, protect, and move materials and tools so assigned work areas remain productive.
- Use and maintain pipe machines, groovers, presses, rigging, hand tools, and power tools only after training and authorization.
- Complete assigned apprenticeship, safety, and skills training and accurately report work hours when required.
- Inspect work areas for hazards, follow the project safety plan, and use required personal protective equipment.
- Maintain a clean work area and protect completed work, equipment, and customer property.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions
Work is performed on active commercial construction sites and may include outdoor exposure, temperature extremes, noise, dust, limited-access areas, ladders, lifts, scaffolds, and elevated surfaces. The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, climb, handle tools and materials, and frequently lift or carry up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Required PPE and all project safety procedures must be
followed.
