Each of us takes accountability for results, drives for continued efficiencies and has the tenacity to win. We are seeking Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer Interns to do hands-on work that could add directly to the bottom line of our culture and our company.
You will have many responsibilities and accountabilities , like mechanical support for programs. You will learn how to lead mechanical projects for several different areas of the plant including operations improvements and new and replacement programs.
This is a hands-on position in which you may work with periodic repairs and to provide technical support and direction to support personnel/skilled trades.
What You’ll Do : • Mechanical root cause analysis and problem solving • Analyze product , process and technology to figure out the best methods of manufacture • Assist in the design and building of tools and equipment or recommends improvements to existing processes • Assist maintenance personnel in operation and maintenance of specialized equipment • Troubleshoot special maintenance and equipment problem • Coordinate machinery upgrade projects • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
• Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment. Required Qualifications: • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology • Must be graduating between August 202 7 and June 202 9 • Able to work full - time, 40 hours per week • Must be w illing to work in a plant environment Preferred Qualifications: • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust • Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer-centric • Excellent project management skills and the proven ability to manage multiple projects at any given Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to: • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
• Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections. • Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
• Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes. • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).
• Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch and reach to perform work. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.
