Job Description Summary Internship Gas Insulated Switchgear: As part of our internship program, you will work on real commercial and development projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, gain know-how in design, prototyping, manufacturing and testing of gas insulated switchgear (GIS), develop your leadership and communication skills and get the chance to apply your know-how in software development and AI solutions to generate real additional value for GE Vernova.
Job Description Grid Solutions – Internship Gas Insulated Switchgear (m/f/d) Responsibilities: • Gain practical experience in GIS testing and support the team of test engineers in high voltage tests of GIS components and of complete GIS bays as part of development and type testing in the accredited high voltage laboratory.
• Support our test engineers in parts and drawing control for accredited tests and gain practical experience regarding design and assembly of GIS components in the prototype workshop during the preparation of test objects • Rotate through different stations in the industrial manufacturing of GIS for commercial projects and gain experience in the challenges of lean manufacturing and give feedback regarding potential improvements.
• Take part in the dielectric routine testing of GIS components and bays taking advantage of the learnings from the experience in the high voltage laboratory.
• Familiarize yourself with the Automation Interface documentation of the partial discharge (PD) measuring systems in the routine test of the GIS factory.
• Based on the experience during routine testing, the feedback from experienced test personnel, existing requirements and considering the opportunities of the Automation Interface of the PD measuring system, work out a proposal for a manufacturing site specific user interface for the PD measuring system including import of the project data, automatic adjustment of the test parameters, guided test with automatic documentation of test results, irregularities and tracking of the test history of a test object.
Discuss the proposal with all involved parties and agree for a specification of the interface. • With the use of the Automation Interface documentation, existing code examples and the agreed specification, program the routine test interface in a common and supported programming language.
The coding can be done either in the classical way or using AI support. Make extensive use of comments in the code, to document the code. Requirements: • High autonomy combined with a proactive and pragmatic approach to work and to learn • Strong in problem-solving, resource management, and time-management skill • Good communication skills, ability to adapt to the work environment • Sense of urgency to execute and success-oriented attitude • Experience in: o Electrical engineering (Bachelor/Master degree), basic knowledge in high voltage engineering of advantage o Power systems with basic know-how on the tasks of air and gas insulated switchgear in electrical distribution and transmission networks o Measurement technology, knowledge in partial discharge measurement of advantage o Practical programming using common programming languages e.
g. Pyton, C, VBA, Matlab; know-how in using AI tools of advantage o Analysing state of the art situations, concluding for improvement opportunities, planning an according improvement project, realize and if required adjust the project with pragmatic, target oriented approach.
