Position Summary: The Platform Engineering Intern gains hands-on experience with the platforms and DevOps toolchain (ServiceNow, Jira, Azure DevOps, GitHub) that support GreatAmerica's technology operations, working alongside experienced engineers on maintenance, monitoring, automation, and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate has an interest in cloud technologies, infrastructure, and automation, and in the reliable operation of enterprise technology platforms.
GreatAmerica's internship program is designed to build foundational technical and business knowledge while building bench strength for our platform engineering roles.
Our internships often turn into full-time employment opportunities for students! Essential Functions: • Collaborate with platform engineers to support the configuration, maintenance, and improvement of GreatAmerica's core enterprise platforms.
• Assist with automation and CI/CD pipeline exposure (Azure DevOps, GitHub) and help troubleshoot and resolve platform issues. • Write SQL queries and assist in optimizing database interactions in support of platform data and reporting needs.
• Document technical processes, configuration standards, and contribute to the team's knowledge base. Relevant Coursework/Experience: • Cloud computing, networking, and systems administration fundamentals • Database concepts and SQL • RESTful APIs, JSON, and HTTP protocols • DevOps, automation, and cybersecurity fundamentals Position Qualifications Skills and Abilities SQL and SQL Server Management Studio, exposure to a major cloud platform such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or GCP, familiarity with a scripting or programming language (PowerShell, Python, Bash or similar), strong communication, collaboration, and troubleshooting skills; comfortable asking questions and learning new tools, basic familiarity with Git and source control workflows, exposure to CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, and Microsoft Windows/Office ecosystem.
