- Basic mechanical, electrical, or technical aptitude preferred; experience with troubleshooting, lab work, shop tools, or industrial equipment is a plus.

Technical Service Internship - Summer 2027 As a member of Hypertherm Associates' Technical Service team, you will gain hands-on experience supporting customers, distributors, and internal teams while helping troubleshoot real-world technical issues related to Hypertherm’s cutting systems.
The Technical Service Intern will assist in providing technical support for Hypertherm’s plasma, waterjet, CNC, and related cutting system products. This role will focus on learning how to troubleshoot customer issues, review technical documentation, support case research, and assist experienced Technical Service associates with product, application, and service-related questions.
As an intern, this person will work closely with Technical Service Engineers, Product Support, Training, Quality, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams to help investigate field issues, improve service knowledge, and support timely resolution of customer and partner inquiries.
This role is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in technical troubleshooting, customer support, product serviceability, technical documentation, case management, communication, and problem-solving in a collaborative service environment.
Responsibilities: • Gain a strong understanding of Hypertherm plasma, waterjet, CNC, and torch height control products, including how they are installed, operated, maintained, and serviced.
• Assist Technical Service associates with researching customer cases, reviewing service history, and gathering information needed to support troubleshooting and issue resolution.
• Learn and apply structured troubleshooting methods, root cause analysis, and problem-solving techniques to help identify technical issues and potential solutions.
• Review technical documentation, manuals, service bulletins, knowledge articles, and test information to support accurate and consistent technical responses.
• Collaborate with Technical Service, Engineering, Quality, Training, Sales, and Manufacturing teams to support product knowledge sharing and field issue resolution.
• Help create, update, or organize technical service resources such as troubleshooting guides, process documents, knowledge base articles, and service reference materials.
• Develop professional communication skills by supporting clear written and verbal technical communication with internal teams and, when appropriate, customer-facing support channels.
• Gain exposure to safety, regulatory, and service compliance expectations related to technical support and field service activities. • Travel on site to service Hypertherm equipment in the field with Technical Service Engineers Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience • Currently enrolled as a rising junior or senior, in a BE degree program.
• Completed at least two years of coursework and currently in good academic standing. • Interest in technical troubleshooting, customer support, service operations, manufacturing, or industrial equipment.
• Highly self-motivated, curious, and willing to learn new products, systems, and technical processes. • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently on assigned projects.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Basic mechanical, electrical, or technical aptitude preferred; experience with troubleshooting, lab work, shop tools, or industrial equipment is a plus.
