Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/ . Program Dates:   January 11, 2027 – June 25, 2027 Principal Duties and Responsibilities • Assist in the design, prototyping, and testing of embedded systems focused on optical sensing technology.

• Contribute to system prototypes, integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components. • Support hardware development for fiber optics-based systems, including PCB design and fabrication.

• Participate in experiments involving fiber optics, light-based sensors, and interferometry. • Troubleshoot and optimize system performance in both optical and electrical systems.

• Document project work, including test plans, results, and technical reports. • Present progress in design reviews to peers and leadership. • Ensure project activities comply with company quality policies, regulatory standards, and design controls.

Job Qualifications • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Optical Engineering, or a related field.

• Interest in interdisciplinary work that combines electrical, mechanical, and software skills in embedded systems development. • Exposure to fiber optics, light-based sensors, interferometry, or optical systems a plus • Exposure to embedded systems, microcontrollers, or PCB design (e.

g., Altium, Eagle). • Interest or exposure to optical and electrical testing equipment such as spectrometers, light sources, and power meters. • Hands-on experience or interest in prototyping and building mechanical or electrical systems.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic coding skills (e.

g., Python, C/C++). • Good verbal and written communication skills in English. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in the medical device industry.

• Knowledge of optical design software (e.g., Zemax, Code V). • Familiarity with PCB design software (e.g., Altium, Eagle, KiCad). • Experience with embedded software design (e.

g., STM32, Arduino, Python). • Familiarity with fabrication tools such as 3D printers or machining. • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).

50/hr to $52.50/hr Additional Description for Pay Transparency: The expected pay range for this position is between $23.50 per hour and $52.50 per hour but will be based on candidate's program year, discipline, degree and/or experience.

Co-Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in Company sponsored employee medical benefits in accordance with the terms of the plan. Co-Ops and Interns are eligible for the following sick time benefits: up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington, up to 56 hours per calendar year.
