Our groundbreaking spin on service and technology has fueled our mission to be America’s Small Business Bank. Our products help customers buy, build, and expand their business, and our high-yield savings and CD products help them grow their hard-earned money.

At Live Oak, we never lose sight of the well-being of our people. We believe our employees are the heart of our company. Our commitment to our customers and culture is intertwined, and we seek those who embody and embrace what it takes to empower the American dream.

Ready to make an impact? We're looking for an intern to join our team for the onsite 10-week Summer 2027 Internship Program (May 17 - July 23, 2027) at our headquarters in Wilmington, NC.

Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, September 23. How This Role Impacts Live Oak and Its People Live Oak is putting AI in the hands of every employee, not just engineers.

That creates a gap most banks never staff: someone who can sit with a lending team for two days, understand what actually slows them down, and leave behind a working solution — then turn around and teach forty people how to build the next one themselves.

This internship is that gap. You will spend the summer embedded with real teams across the bank, building AI solutions alongside them and making the people around you more capable than they were before you arrived.

You will ship things employees use, and you will strengthen the AI champions and skills librarians who carry this work forward after you leave. We hire interns who build.

Ex: a successful 2026 intern was a business major who had founded a company, shipped production websites for paying clients, and used AI as core infrastructure rather than a novelty.

What You'll Do at Live Oak Forward-Deployed Engineering — roughly half your time • Embed with business teams across lending, deposits, credit, and operations to find the workflows where AI removes real friction — then build the solution with them, not for them.

• Ship working tools fast using Claude, Claude Code, Power Automate, and low-code platforms. Prototype in days, not quarters. Expect what you build to be in real use before your first month ends.

• Translate between worlds by turning a lender's challenge into a scoped problem statement, and turning a technical constraint into language a business leader can act on.

• Document what you build so the team maintains it after you leave. A solution that dies when the intern leaves was never a solution. Enablement & Training — roughly a third of your time • Support our AI champions and skills librarians by enhancing the training materials, reusable skills, and internal documentation they need to scale adoption inside their own business units.

• Run hands-on training for employees at every level — from people who have never opened an AI tool to power users who want to build their own agents.

• Create artifacts that outlast the session including prompt libraries, reusable skills, quick-reference guides, and short video walkthroughs. Support & Measurement — the remainder • Field questions and unblock employees on our enterprise AI tools.

Every recurring question is a signal about missing training or missing tooling; you will spot the pattern and close the gap. • Measure whether any of this is working by defining and tracking adoption, usage, and time-saved metrics so leadership can tell genuine impact apart from enthusiasm.

• Bring back what you find in a summer-end readout to senior leadership: where AI is creating value at Live Oak, where it is stalling, and what you would do next.

Required • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program • A portfolio, GitHub, or set of shipped projects you can walk us through. Side businesses, automations, websites, bots, and tools you built • Demonstrated fluency with AI tools as part of how you work — not just as something you have tried.

Be ready to show us the last thing you built with one. • Ability to write and speak clearly to non-technical people. • Comfort with ambiguity and self-direction.

Preferred • Experience building with modern web or automation stacks. • Experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, or leading a team — formally or otherwise.

• Exposure to a regulated industry, or real curiosity about why banks work the way they do. Understanding the constraint is what makes a solution usable.

• Enough data analysis ability to build a measurement framework and defend the numbers in it. #LI-DNI Our Values • Dedication:  Possess a deep commitment to Live Oak Bank’s mission and core values, exemplified through a strong work ethic, adaptability and pride in your work.

• Ownership:  Take initiative to deliver positive results by proactively and creatively solving problems, while maintaining a high degree of quality. • Respect:  Treat everyone with courtesy, politeness, and kindness.

• Innovation:  Embrace fresh ideas and fearlessly contribute new solutions to emerging or existing problems. • Teamwork: Foster collaboration, accountability, and trust with others and understand that together, we do more For a detailed overview of our employee benefits please visit:  http://www.
