If you want to be part of tomorrow’s health today, we want to hear from you. The Health Systems Strategy & Optimization Intern will support strategic initiatives focused on enhancing contract performance, member value, and growth across McKesson's GPO and health system partnerships.
This internship provides hands-on experience in healthcare analytics, strategic planning, contract optimization, and cross-functional collaboration within a dynamic healthcare environment.
The intern will work closely with Health Systems Strategy & Optimization leaders to analyze data, support business initiatives, develop insights, and contribute to projects that drive measurable value for healthcare providers and industry partners.
Intern Program Details: · Paid Internship · Full time / 10 weeks · Position will be based out of Texas · The internship program provides networking, access to executives, structured performance & coaching · Experiential learning and training provided by exposure to subject matter experts Key Responsibilities Analytics & Business Insights • Assist with gathering, organizing, and analyzing healthcare utilization, purchasing, and contract performance data.
• Support development of dashboards, reports, and presentations that communicate key business trends and opportunities. • Conduct research and analysis to identify contract optimization opportunities and member value enhancement strategies.
• Compile and summarize findings into actionable business recommendations. Strategic Planning & Market Research • Perform market research and competitive assessments within the healthcare, GPO, and biopharma industries.
• Support strategic planning initiatives by analyzing industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging opportunities. • Help develop business cases and supporting materials for growth initiatives and member engagement strategies.
Contract Optimization Support • Assist in evaluating contract performance metrics and identifying opportunities to improve member participation and outcomes.
• Support preparation of utilization analyses, economic comparisons, and program performance reviews. • Participate in discussions related to aggregation, rebate optimization, and contract strategy initiatives.
Cross-Functional Projects • Collaborate with teams across Sales, Analytics, Contracting, Operations, and Business Development. • Support project management activities, including meeting preparation, documentation, action item tracking, and status reporting.
• Contribute to special projects focused on process improvement, operational efficiency, and member experience enhancements. Communication & Presentation Development • Assist with creating executive-ready presentations, summary reports, and business updates.
• Translate data and analytical findings into clear, concise, and visually compelling insights. • Present project findings and recommendations to team members and leadership at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications Education • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Healthcare Administration, Data Analytics, Public Health, or a related field.
• Rising Junior, Senior, MBA, or graduate student preferred. Skills & Experience • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms is a plus. • Ability to synthesize large amounts of information into meaningful insights.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Desired Characteristics • Interest in healthcare strategy, provider economics, healthcare contracting, or biopharma partnerships.
• Curious, self-motivated, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment. • Comfortable working with data and presenting findings to business stakeholders.
• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across diverse teams. Learning Opportunities During the internship, participants will gain exposure to: • Healthcare GPO and contracting strategies • Health system economics and optimization initiatives • Financial modeling and business analytics • Executive presentation development • Cross-functional healthcare leadership • Strategic planning and market assessment processes Expected Outcomes By the end of the internship, the intern will: • Deliver a capstone project addressing a real business opportunity or strategic challenge.
• Develop a strong understanding of healthcare contracting and optimization strategies. • Build analytical, communication, and business decision-making skills applicable to future healthcare leadership roles.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.
