Job description

This recruitment will be used to fill eight part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) STEM Leader Intern positions for the STEM Leader Education Program at Oregon State University (OSU).

Local High School Students in Wasco and Hood River Counties are invited to apply for work in our STEM Leader Education Program. You will be working as part of our support staff helping students with STEM and Maker learning activities. STEM Leaders will work 2-4 hours per week, completing 6-10 hours of required (paid) training over the course of a school year and will work with staff from OSU Extension Wasco County 4-H to learn how to support younger children in programs such as robotics, invention / maker, Juntitos, and other STEM programs.

In the fall, students are matched in after-school clubs to work with youth, supervised by OSU Extension or hosting school staff. STEM Leaders will support younger students with weekly hours (2-4) to be determined

by the program coordinator.

Position Duties

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the  Office of International Services  (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Working conditions/schedule

  • STEM Leaders work 1-2 days per week for 2-4 hours assisting in after-school STEM programs.
  • Must have transportation to get the host school.
