Federal Work-Study (FWS) Internship Program: Finance and Administrative Intern (Student Wage)

**Federal work-study students only** The Department of Mathematics seeks a motivated student to serve as a Finance and Administrative Intern . This position combines front-office responsibilities with hands-on experience in departmental finance and budgeting.

Responsibilities include: • Providing receptionist and front-desk support. • Assisting with departmental financial adjustments using Workday Finance. • Ordering departmental supplies and tracking related purchases.

• Preparing and updating recurring financial reports using Microsoft Excel. • Supporting other administrative and financial projects as assigned. Qualifications: • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately. • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Interest in finance, budgeting, accounting, or administrative operations preferred. This position is supervised by the Department Finance and Administration Manager and is designed to provide practical experience in financial administration and budgeting while supporting the day-to-day operations of the department.

It complements, but is distinct from, the Receptionist Lead position. Important : In addition to the job duties and responsibilities outlined above, this position will participate in a structured internship experience through the Internship Placement Program (IPP).

If selected, interns must enroll in either UNST 3910 (1 cr.) or UNST 3920 (1 cr.). The courses are offered 9+ times during the fall, offering plenty of options to choose from.

If the course does not work for your schedule, we also offer an asynchronous co-curricular workshop series through Canvas. Through this robust internship experience, students will receive dedicated career support from their supervisor and gain key skills and competencies that align with future job interests.

The FWS Internship will look great on your resume and provide the student with impactful stories to share in interviews. TFWS Internships are best suited for students in their 2nd – 4th years.

Compensation : $18/hr. Scheduling : ~10 hours per week. Location : Kerchof Hall, 141 Cabell Dr, Charlottesville, VA MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Resume and cover letter required.
