  • Design and implement AI-assisted workflows that directly optimize our production environment.

Requirements and eligibility

  • Educational Foundation: Pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated programming experience , including the ability to write, read, test, debug, and troubleshoot code.
  • Ability to apply programming concepts and problem-solving skills to develop effective and maintainable solutions, with the ability to provide examples of this work upon request.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently apply programming skills to solve problems or build software through coursework, projects, internships, research, personal coding projects, or other hands-on work.

Preferred, not required

  • Open Source: Prior contributions to open-source projects or academic publications are a plus.
  • Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.

About the Team/Role: We are seeking a highly motivated and talented student in Computer Science or a related field to join our  Data Acquisition Team as the entry point to WEX’s Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform — here we are responsible for ingesting, validating, and orchestrating raw data from dozens of internal systems and third-party providers.

You’ll work across multiple data domains and ingestion patterns—batch, streaming, and event-driven ensuring that quality, performance, and governance are embedded in every step.

How you’ll make an impact: • Contribute to impactful projects: Work on challenging projects that leverage AI/ML to address critical business needs in areas such as fraud prevention, credit risk assessment, and data-driven real time decision making.

• Build agentic AI solutions: Help develop and enhance our agentic AI platform, building intelligent agents that automate workflows, assist decision-making, and solve real-world problems across engineering, product, operations, and customer experiences.

• Data Transformation: Develop advanced platforms and tools to process, enrich, and optimize core company data, ensuring it’s easy and efficient to use—unlocking value for both customers and internal teams.

• Design and implement AI-assisted workflows that directly optimize our production environment. Apply specification-driven development and declarative system design to build highly scalable, model-driven solution.

• Work with big data technologies: Gain experience with big data tools and technologies, including data ingestion, processing, and analysis. • Collaborate with experts: Partner with experienced engineers and researchers to brainstorm solutions, overcome technical challenges, and contribute to innovative projects.

• Present your work: Share your research findings and project outcomes with the team and stakeholders. Experience you’ll bring: • Educational Foundation: Pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Demonstrated programming experience , including the ability to write, read, test, debug, and troubleshoot code. • Hands-on experience developing software or programming solutions through professional experience, internships, academic coursework or school projects, research, personal/self-directed coding projects, or other hands-on programming experience.

• Hands-on experience using at least one programming language , such as Java, Python, C++, C#, JavaScript, or another relevant language. • Ability to apply programming concepts and problem-solving skills to develop effective and maintainable solutions, with the ability to provide examples of this work upon request.

• Demonstrated ability to independently apply programming skills to solve problems or build software through coursework, projects, internships, research, personal coding projects, or other hands-on work.

• Hands-on experience working with data , including data analysis, manipulation, or visualization. Preferred Skills: • Cloud & DevOps: Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and core DevOps practices.

• Data & AI Infrastructure: Exposure to data processing (SQL, ELT, data warehousing) and foundational AI/ML concepts. • Modern Development Methodologies: Interest in Spec-Driven Development (SDD) and leveraging AI assistants to write structured, high-quality code.

• Open Source: Prior contributions to open-source projects or academic publications are a plus. • Problem-Solving & Learning: Solution-oriented mindset with a strong desire to master scalable system design and explore new technologies.

• Communication & Collaboration: Ability to articulate technical ideas clearly and work effectively within a team. • Customer Focus: Driven to turn business problems into practical, user-centric software solutions.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.

Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan.
