About the role

Zekelman Industries is seeking a Production Analytics & AI Intern to support production planning and digital transformation initiatives to work on site at our Wheatland Tube Council Avenue facility in Wheatland, Pennsylvania. The official Zekelman internship program runs from May 24, 2027 through August 13, 2027.

This unique internship sits at the intersection of manufacturing operations, production planning, data analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI). The intern will work closely with both the Production Planning team and the AI & Innovation team to help improve how production decisions are made, measured, and optimized. Rather than working solely on theoretical analytics projects, you'll spend time on the manufacturing floor learning how steel pipe and tube production operates and identifying opportunities to improve planning processes through data, automation, and emerging technologies.

You'll collaborate with production leaders, planners, operators, and technology teams to analyze workflows, evaluate operational data, and help introduce digital tools that improve visibility, planning accuracy, and decision-making. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, connecting data to business outcomes, and applying technology to real-world manufacturing challenges.

What you'll do

  • Support production planning activities through analysis of manufacturing, inventory, and scheduling data
  • Analyze production workflows and recommend opportunities for automation, digitalization, or AI-enabled improvements
  • Partner with Production Planning and AI & Innovation teams to evaluate business processes and develop practical solutions
  • Build dashboards, reports, and visualizations that support production and planning decisions
  • Help document current-state and future-state planning workflows and operational processes
  • Assist with pilot projects involving AI tools, analytics platforms, or digital productivity solutions
  • Support data collection, validation, and reporting related to production performance and planning effectiveness
  • Research emerging technologies and analytical approaches applicable to manufacturing and supply chain operations
  • Prepare presentations and recommendations for operations, planning, and leadership stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Who You Are

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
  • Strong interest in manufacturing, production planning, analytics, AI, or digital transformation
  • Comfortable analyzing data and translating findings into actionable business recommendations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and familiar with data visualization or reporting tools
  • Exposure to SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or similar analytical tools is preferred
  • Knowledge of AI tools, automation technologies, or machine learning concepts through coursework, projects, or internships is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and interacting with both production and office-based teams
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present insights to technical and non-technical audiences
