Position Title: Optical Verification Engineer (Co-op/Intern) Employment Type: Student – Co-op, existing vacancy Location: Ottawa ON, Onsite Lumentum is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Optical Verification Engineer (Co-op/Intern) to join the R&D Design Verification and Characterization (DVaC) team in Switching & Optical R&D based in Ottawa, Ontario .

The Opportunity... 8-month term (preferred): Jan 2027 to Aug 2027 12-month term: Jan 2027 to Dec 2027 Pay Range: $24-35/hr What You'll Be Doing Do you enjoy having autonomy and independence in tasks, while also collaboratively contributing to novel, cutting-edge products in the photonics and optical communications industries?
If so, consider joining our team of talented optical engineers and software designers. You will have a positive impact on our success by: • Employing theoretical concepts and principles from optics & photonics in practice, to improve the robustness of our test & measurement techniques.
• Sharing your advanced knowledge of optical technologies with the team to further team growth. • Developing test measurement techniques and station architectures to characterize critical optical parameters.
• Designing and conducting test cases to properly validate the operation of critical product features. • Implementing and expanding upon automated test software and scripts that improve our test coverage as well as the quality of our results.
• Analyzing and characterizing optical, hardware and software failures and reporting them to relevant designers using our internal process and tools; and, • Applying best practices and contributing to the ongoing improvement of team processes and test execution.
What We're Looking For Education: • 2+ years towards a degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics or equivalent. • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
Skills: • Demonstrated technical expertise in active optical & electromagnetic components. • Ability to take initiative in your tasks and ask meaningful questions.
• Team guidance skills. • Strong, persistent troubleshooting and debugging skills. • Good understanding of test plans, test execution, and bug reporting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Basic understanding of electrical hardware concepts. • Experience in software development, drivers, instrumentation and automation is an asset.
• Familiarity with optical lab practices is an asset.
