You said you built a budget tracker in Python. What made you start it?
My roommates kept arguing about rent and groceries.
Did they use it? What changed after?
All four of us, every month. The arguments stopped.

FAQ
Before you start looking.
What is UTern?
UTern is Active Recruiting for internships. Birdee, UTern's AI, works with students: it finds real internships that fit, helps them prove what they can do through a conversation about their own work (no quizzes, no resume required), shows them how to stand out with AI (the next project to build, the course worth taking and who to reach out to, remembered from their own history), and helps them get picked, so companies come to them. Students always submit their own applications; UTern never applies for them. For hiring teams, Birdee scopes the internship, finds students who fit on UTern and the open web, and each student says yes to that role before the company sees them. Companies see evidence, never scores. Posting a role costs $0, and a company pays only when it hires: $750 for its first hire in 12 months, less after.
What does UTern cost?
Nothing. Students never pay.
Do I need a resume or a past internship?
No. Start with a conversation about what you have done: coursework, projects, jobs, clubs, research or volunteering. UTern helps you describe it without inventing anything.
Do I still have to apply?
For companies recruiting through UTern, no form: you say yes to a role and your record goes to that company. For internships listed on other sites, UTern helps you prepare, and you review and submit on the employer's website.
Who can see my record?
Only the companies you say yes to, one role at a time. What you reported and what has been checked are labeled separately.
When should I apply for summer internships?
Earlier than most students expect. Many large programs open in August and September for the following summer, and finance and consulting often recruit a full year ahead. Smaller companies post much later, through the spring. That is why UTern watches postings continuously and tells you when a role that fits you opens.
Are internships paid?
Many are, and UTern shows the pay beside the dates on every posting when the employer states it. You can set a pay target and see how each role compares, so an unpaid posting is a decision you make rather than one you discover late.
Does UTern guarantee an interview?
No. UTern helps you build your record and find where you fit; employers decide whom to interview and hire.
