Agentic internship hunter
What UTern is
The agentic internship hunter
UTern is an agentic internship hunter. Birdee, UTern's AI, finds real internships across 4,750 employers, helps you prove what you can do, and when a company's role fits you, the company comes to you. You never fill in a form for it.
What is an agentic internship hunter?
Software that works toward a goal on its own. The goal is an internship you are qualified for; the work is searching, reading, checking and reaching out, over and over, without you driving each step. A job board is a search index: it returns links and leaves the applying to you. An agentic hunter runs the search, keeps it running, and brings the company to the student who fits.
Birdee, UTern's AI, is the hunter. It works from your evidence, not from keywords, and a company sees that evidence only for roles you said yes to.
How does Birdee hunt?
- Finds. Birdee reads employers' own career pages and applicant tracking systems continuously. Right now that is 33,799 live listings from 4,750 employers, counted, not estimated. Browse them.
- Reads. The full posting: the work, the requirements, the dates, the pay when it is stated. What a listing leaves out is left out, never guessed.
- Learns your work. Through a conversation, not a quiz. A skill you explain first hand is recorded as verified, in your own words; anything else stays labeled as a claim.
- Brings the company to you. A company tells Birdee what it needs and Birdee scopes the role. Birdee finds the students who fit, starting with the ones already on UTern, and you say yes before the company sees you. The company sees evidence, never a score, and never race, gender, age or a photo. Then it interviews.
- Keeps watch. When programs usually open, and when a role that fits you opens.
What will UTern not do?
Apply for you. Invent experience you do not have. Show you to a company for a role you did not say yes to. Give a company a score about you.
When do internships open, and what do they pay?
UTern tracks when employers' programs have actually appeared across past recruiting cycles and what employers file with the US Department of Labor for the same kinds of work. Both are on the internship statistics page, and on every role UTern shows you.
Questions students ask
- What does the agentic internship hunter cost?
- Nothing. Students never pay.
- Does UTern apply for me?
- No. You always submit your own applications, and UTern never auto-submits. For companies recruiting on UTern there is no form: the company's role comes to you, and you say yes before the company sees you. Any other listing opens on the employer's own site.
- Is UTern a job board?
- No, and not a swipe app either. A job board is a search index you work through by hand. UTern is Active Recruiting for internships: Birdee runs the search for you, finds the roles companies are filling through UTern, and the company comes to you.
- Where do the internships come from?
- From employers' own career pages and applicant tracking systems such as Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby and Workday, read continuously. Every listing links to the employer's page. The roles a company is filling through UTern carry the bird.
- How do I prove what I can do?
- Talk to Birdee about your own work. Birdee asks a few specific questions about what you did, and a skill you explain first hand is recorded as verified, in your own words. No quizzes, and no resume required.
